2nd Grade CogAT

At the beginning of the school year, Dr. Heinman shared a letter listing the state and standardized assessments for this school year.

One of the assessments listed was the CogAT (Cognitive Abilities Test) which all 2nd grade students in the district will take. Walnut Avenue School will administer the CogAT (Cognitive Abilities Test) screenings during the mornings of Monday, 2/12, Tuesday, 2/13 and Wednesday, 2/14.

The screening provides valuable data and is part of the process for identifying students for the Pathways to Excellence (P2E) program. This test is a nationally standardized assessment that measures reasoning and problem-solving skills in three different areas: verbal, quantitative and nonverbal. The screenings will be completed by students online. Students will work for approximately 60 minutes each day. There is no need to prepare in advance. If a student is without headphones in their classroom, sending them in for testing purposes would be very helpful.

Parents/guardians will receive a copy of the report once the information is available. At the same time there may also be notification as to whether the student is eligible to move to the next phase of the P2E identification process.
